Emergency Vet Treatment
Please call us on 0131 287 2662 during our opening hours – we will always see your pet in an emergency.
When we are closed, please contact VidiVet (via the app) in the first instance. A vet will send you a personalised video response within minutes on any concerns you may have regarding your pet’s health. They will let you know whether it is safe to wait to see us at Heritage Vets in the morning, or whether you need to attend our Out Of Hours Service (see below)
How VidiVet works:
- Click here to download the app. Send your question to a vet at any time, day or night. You will receive a video reply from one of their vets within just a few minutes.Patients who are hospitalised with us at Heritage Vets during the day, will continue to be cared for by us here overnight as necessary depending on the level of care they require. This will always be discussed with you in detail.
In an acute, life-threatening emergency (or if recommended by VidiVet) please contact The Dick Vet Small Animal Hospital, who are providing an emergency service out of hours:
0131 650 7883 – please always call before setting off.
The Dick Vet team will work in partnership with you and Heritage Vets to look after your pet. You will be asked to take your pet to the Dick Vet Small Animal Hospital at Easter Bush where necessary (they, like most emergency vets, do not have a pet ambulance facility).
The initial consultation fee is £206.97 before 10pm, and £285.10 after 10pm. This does not include any further tests or procedures. The consultation must be paid at the time, and a deposit of half of any estimated treatment costs will be required if your pet needs to stay in.
If your pet is admitted into the Hospital, they will be discharged the next day between 8-8.30am for arrival at Heritage Vets before 9am (where you will be seen as a priority). If your pet is too sick to travel, it will be kept under the care of the Dick Vet General Practice team. Should intensive care be required your pet may be referred to the Emergency and Critical Care Service (as would be the case for very sick pets during normal opening hours). This will always be discussed with you.
